Caravan Hire Extras: Linen, Starlink and What Else You Can Add

Every Dirt Gear van comes fully loaded with the essentials, but some trips call for a bit more comfort or capability. Here are the straight answers on our optional extras, what the Linen Kit actually covers, and which add-ons are worth it for your kind of trip.

What optional extras can I add to my caravan hire?

Here is the full menu. Per-day items run for the length of your hire, per-booking items are a one-off cost.

Linen Kit us, sized to your guest count - $150 (Sheets/Doonas/Bath Towels/Pillow Covers)

Starlink Wi-Fi$15 per day

Generator $75 per Booking

BBQ $75 per Booking

Gazebo $35 per booking

Camp chairs and table $15 per booking

Bath and kitchen towels $15 per booking

Towing mirrors $25 per booking

Portable brake controller $50 per booking

Pet fee $30 per booking

Van cleaning from $150 per booking

One way hire to Brisbane$1,500 per booking

Add any of these when you book, or ask us and we will sort it.

Is linen included in my caravan hire?

Not as standard, and here is exactly how it works. Every van comes with pillows fitted with protectors and mattress protectors on every bed, so the beds are clean and protected no matter what. What you choose is how the beds get made:

No Linen, the standard option. Bring your own sheets, doonas, pillow cases and towels. Most locals and regular campers already have these packed.

Add the Linen Kit. We supply pillow covers, sheets, doonas, towels, tea towels and a bath mat, all sized to the number of guests on your booking. Walk in with your clothes and food, everything else is made up and ready.

The Linen Kit earns its keep for flyers picking up the van, time-poor families, and anyone who would rather not wash and dry a load of linen after the trip.

Does the caravan have internet when I am off-grid?

Yes, if you add Starlink Wi-Fi at $15 per day. It is satellite internet, so it works at free camps and national parks where your phone shows zero bars. If you are working remotely, keeping kids streaming, or just want weather radar in the middle of nowhere, this is the extra people thank us for. For how it affects your battery budget, see our guide to off-grid power and water.

Do I need a generator?

Most hirers do not. With decent sun, the solar and battery system comfortably covers 3 to 5 days off-grid. A generator at $75 per booking is worth it if you are chasing a long stay in shady or overcast conditions, or you want guaranteed power no matter what the weather does. If you are unsure, tell us where you are headed and we will give you a straight answer.
PS: National Parks do NOT Allow generators…….

What if my car is not set up for towing?

Two extras cover the usual gaps. Towing mirrors are $25 per booking and are a legal must if your car mirrors cannot see past the van. A portable brake controller is $50 per booking and suits vehicles with a 7 or 12 pin flat plug. We confirm your tow vehicle is suitable before every tow-away hire, so nothing gets discovered on pickup day.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, in selected vans with a pet fee of $30 per booking. Let us know at booking so we put you in a pet-friendly van.

Do I have to clean the van before I return it?

You can hand it back clean, or pay us to handle it. A full clean including the toilet is $250, a clean excluding the toilet is $200, and emptying and cleaning the chemical toilet on its own is $150. Plenty of hirers finish a big trip, add the cleaning option and drive home early. Your call.

Can I hire a caravan one way?

Yes, we offer one way hire from Taree to Brisbane for $1,500 per booking. Handy for relocations or fly-drive trips. Call us before booking so we can line up the logistics.

What about cooking and outdoor setup?

A BBQ is $75 per hire for proper outdoor cooking without using your battery budget. A gazebo is $35 per booking for shade at camp. Pair the BBQ with the included gas cooktop and you can keep the batteries for the fridge and lights, which is exactly what our off-grid guide recommends.

How do I add extras to my booking?

Select them during the booking process on Camplify, or you can add later in your camplify account. If you are not sure what your trip needs, tell us where you are going and for how long, and we will tell you honestly what is worth adding and what you can skip.
