What is Included in the Caravan for Hire

What Is Included in a Dirt Gear Hire Caravan?
One of the first questions we get from new hirers is what comes with the van and what they need to pack. The short answer: we supply everything you need to live the off-grid dream, so you are not hauling half your house up the coast. Here are the straight answers to the questions every hirer asks before pickup or delivery.

Do I need to bring my own plates, cutlery or cooking gear?
No. The kitchen is fully stocked with cutlery, crockery, plasticware, cookware and a chopping board. Bring your food and your appetite, the rest is already in the van.
Is bedding included in a caravan hire?
Bedding is not included as standard, so bring your own sheets, doona, pillows and towels. If you would rather travel light, add our Linen Kit as an optional extra at booking and we will have sheets, doonas, sleeping bags and towels ready in the van for you.
What do I need to bring with me?
The packing list is short:
Bedding and towels, unless you add the Linen Kit
Clothes for the trip
Food and drinks
Any personal items and medications
That is it. Everything else on this page is already in the van.
Is the toilet ready to use when I pick up the van?
Yes. The toilet comes set up with chemical, toilet paper, a brush, and a bin with bags, and the cassette is checked and emptied before every hire. No chemist run required on day one.
What optional extras can I add to my booking?
For a little extra comfort or capability, you can add:
Weber BBQ and table
Gazebo
Additional portable fridge
Starlink internet, for staying connected in the middle of nowhere
Generator
Linen Kit with sheets, Pillow Covers, doonas, sleeping bags and towels
Self Tow Kit if you are towing the van yourself
Pet fee if your best mate is coming along
Request these when you book, or ask us and we will sort it.
What is in the Self Tow Kit?
If you are towing rather than having us deliver, the Self Tow Kit covers the towing gear most hirers do not own: towing mirrors, jack, tool kit and the hitch equipment for the van. We will also confirm your tow vehicle is suitable before you hook up.
What safety checks are done before I get the van?
Every van goes through our pre-handover checklist before it leaves the yard, with the final check done on site:
Smoke detector and CO2 detector tested
Window latches checked
Gas bottle gauge checked
Diesel heater tested (If installed)
Battery and water tank levels confirmed
Toilet cassette emptied and checked
You get a van that is geared up and ready for handoff, not a lucky dip.
What is not included?
Food, drinks, personal items, and bedding unless you add the Linen Kit. Off-grid power and water are covered in the van itself, and if you want to know how long they last, read our guide to off-grid power and water before you head out.
